Voudoo Philosophy
Vou=introspection
Doo=mystery
The collections are laced with a lighthearted spirituality and are cut to exude a subtle sensuality. Voudoo is not only designed to make women look good, but to also make them feel good. Voudoo has the unique ability to dress a woman for any occasion.
The symbol of the heart is hidden throughout the Voudoo collection. You can find it in the V of the Voudoo logo, as well as in the gold hangtags discreetly placed on each piece: a secret for only those who wear it to know, as well as those with a keen eye for detail. The diversity of the Voudoo client is representative of the diversity that exists in the world, but love is consistent and universal. The gold heart is just a small reminder of this great notion.
The Voudoo collection=elegance simplified and redefined. Timeless lace continues to inspire, while shirring is found in unexpected places. Tailored to produce sexy, yet understated pieces. Woven fabrics introduce structure to compliment the fluid jersey. This versatile combination is suited for any occasion – wear it for a night out on the town or fly the world and arrive anywhere in style.
Clark Sabbat — Creative Director
Clark Sabbat was born in Brooklyn and grew up practicing Voudoo with his family. Clark has always been inspired by this intriguing and soulful religion. He describes Voudoo as "a positive way of looking at life...in a simple way, but with attention to the small things around you." And this perspective carries over into his design aesthetic. "The clothes themselves are simple...but with extraordinary attention to detail." He has been designing clothing for 14 years, starting with an education—under full scholarship—in fashion design and illustration at Parsons and then at the Fashion Institute of Technology for patternmaking and women's tailoring. After his studies Sabbat traveled to Europe, where he designed high-end clothing for private clients between NY, Paris and Switzerland. He has designed collections for Polo/Ralph Lauren, redesigned and reconstructed vintage collections to create new exciting collections, and also worked on Giorgio Armani fall 2003. In Paris, he began realizing his vision for Voudoo, and when he returned to New York, he partnered up with Lisa Marrocchino to finally turn that vision into reality.
Clark Sabbat's clothes have appeared in Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Sportswear International, Vogue, In Style, Japanese fashion TV, WWD, NY Times, E Fashion File and The Sopranos. Celebrities from Liv Tyler to Kirsty Hume have purchased pieces from his collection. A compliment was given to Sabbat from Lynn Yaeger of the Village Voice she called him a "bohemian Charles James."
Lisa Marrocchino — Business Development Director/CFO
Lisa Marrocchino spent 12 years on Wall Street as a Financial Analyst and Investment Manager in the Technology area, analyzing, researching, advising and investing in growing companies. She was an analyst at Goldman in software for five years before becoming an investment partner at a hedge fund. During that time, Marrocchino worked closely with the head of Microsoft.
However, she stepped out of that life in September of 1999 and gave birth to her daughter, Olivia, a year later. Her son, Leo, was born in January of 2004, and 6 months later, she teamed up with Clark Sabbat to launch Voudoo on a large scale. While her professional expertise is in Technology Companies, her passion has always been fashion. Growing up, her mother was a seamstress, who started sewing and making patterns when she was a young girl in Italy. Marrocchino watched her mother, Angela, sew, crochet, knit, and make her clothes her whole life. She was inspired by this and felt it was her destiny to follow in her mother's fashionable footsteps. She views herself as a trendsetter and spends hours browsing, researching and of course...shopping.
Inspiration
Voudoo provides a source of empowerment and faith. The Veve (pronounced veh-veh) is an integral part of Voudoo. Veve's are symbols traditionally hand drawn and poured into elaborate designs on the floor using salt, sand or rice. The Veves are created before a Voudoo ceremony to help invoke particulare spirits; to bring love, harmony, money, protections, good health and /or good fortune.
The creation of a collection laced with lighthearted spirituality and cut with a gentle sensuality. An ethnic modernity that empowers and inspires. The collection is inspired by a world in need of strength, community and peace.
